Buying & Selling Safely
Don't let your common sense become clouded by what looks like an amazing bargain! If it sounds too good to be true, it most likely is. Just because you are online don't leave behind judgements you would make in real-world situations.
Njord Market as a conduit
Njord Market acts as a conduit between buyers and sellers. Though everyone using Njord Market has agreed to our Terms and Conditions, it is impossible for us to ensure the validity of any advert. Adverts remain the responsibility of the author — do your own research and due diligence.
Any agreements entered into by parties using Njord Market do so entirely at their own risk. Njord Market will not mediate any disputes arising through the use of this facility.
Reporting an advert or a member
Every advert and every public profile carries a Report button. You need to be signed in to use it — if you don't have an account, use the contact form instead; it reaches the same person. Report anything you believe breaks our Terms and Conditions, or that simply looks dodgy — you don't have to be certain, and you won't be in trouble for a report that turns out to be nothing.
Choose the reason that fits best, then use the detail box to say what is actually wrong: which part of the advert, what was said to you and when, and anything else someone coming to it cold would need to understand. Stick to what happened — a vague report is the hardest kind to act on. There is room for 1,000 characters.
Reports are reviewed by the site operator, who may leave the advert alone, hide it from the site, or remove the account behind it. You won't get a running commentary on what was decided, and the person you report is never told who reported them.
If someone is in immediate danger, call 999 first. Reporting here is not an emergency channel — it reaches one person, who may not be at a desk.
Check public profiles
Each member has a public profile. Check whether they have a verified email address. If they don't, they won't receive email notifications of your messages, and Njord Market cannot be assured they are contactable.
For Sellers
Creating an advert
Be descriptive, use photos. Describe your item accurately so buyers' expectations are met before contact. Include photos showing appearance, condition, and any imperfections.
Limit personal information. Don't disclose personally identifiable information in your advert descriptions.
Responding to buyers
Answer questions and determine whether the buyer is someone you want to do business with. If they appear suspicious or raise red flags, trust your instincts and walk away.
When it's sold
Close your advert from your 'My Adverts' section. As a courtesy, contact any outstanding interested buyers.
For Buyers
Initial contact
Ask questions. Ask about the condition and history of the item. Request photos if none have been uploaded.
Limit personal information. Don't initially disclose personally identifiable information.
Establish credibility
It's recommended to talk to the seller by phone before meeting them. If the seller seems evasive or makes you uncomfortable, do not continue pursuing the sale.
